These mysterious characters have haunted many people’s dreams and nightmares but represent a fun fear. Of all these creepy characters, Chucky manages to stand out.
It first appeared in the 1988 film Child’s Play and has appeared in countless sequels.
A formerly innocent child’s toy owned by a serial killer, he’s not a playmate you’d want!
While Chucky is a character many find spooky, he has many fans who appreciate how unconventional he is as a horror icon, coupled with his signature wit.
Killer doll fans often wonder how to draw Chucky so you can portray this famous icon in a horrific situation. If you’re a fan of this famous scary doll, you’ve come to the right place!
In this 6-step series, we explain how you can easily create your drawing of Chucky. Not only that, but we’ll also cover some ways to customize the design and add your touches.
You’ll have to be brave to face Chucky in real life, but it’s just for fun as we take on this drawn version of the oddly lovable horror villain!
How to Draw Chucky
Step 1
Throughout his many film and television appearances, Chucky has undergone several visual changes.
In some of the later films, he is covered in scars and other evidence from the people who previously defeated him.
This design focuses on Chucky in one of his earliest appearances, making him look like he just came out of the box his toy version would have come in.
While we’ll play Chucky this way, let’s go through some details you could add later if you want a battle-damaged character version.
For now, let’s start by outlining Chucky’s face and hair. One of Chucky’s most distinctive traits is his wild red hair, so it’s imperative that any drawing of Chucky include this aspect.
Because her hair is so wild, it can quickly get her head lost in the design. For this reason, you should draw an oval shape with a pencil to visualize the shape of the head.
Carefully outline the face using this pencil guide with the reference image. This includes the left ear, while the right ear is covered by hair.
Next, we draw the hair that flatters the face, which is drawn using a combination of curved and spiky lines to make her hair look messy, as it does in the movies.
When the outlines of the face and hair match our example, we can move on to the next part of the drawing.
Step 2
Chucky often uses the fact that he looks like an innocent child’s toy to fool people, but there’s no way to fool anyone when you see the drawing of the face we’re going to draw!
As we see in our example, Chucky has a very creepy and sinister expression in this pose. He looks like he’s up to no good, which is the perfect expression for this character.
First, we will draw the eyes. In all of his appearances, Chucky’s face is pretty compact and low on the head, and we’ll depict that in the drawing.
To do this, we place his eyes slightly lower than the middle of his face. They are in the shape of ovals with sharp corners, and the angle at which they are placed gives them an eerie expression.
Inside the eyes, we give them extensive, round pupils. Her nose is slight in her face, which would look cute if the doll wasn’t raging.
You can draw the nose with some small curved lines connected and then add small line details above the nose. Finally, let’s draw his mouth.
In this design, Chucky is smiling, but it’s not a friendly smile. We suggest you run if you’ve ever seen the real Chucky with a similar facial expression!
Luckily, the prospect of drawing that smile is less intimidating than it sounds. Just draw a curved line with a smaller one underneath to depict his creepy grin.
Step 3
Previously we mentioned how iconic Chucky’s red hair is, but his outfit is just as famous.
The films have some variations, but Chucky usually wears a brightly colored striped shirt with a blue jumpsuit.
Again, this is a look that would look cute under different circumstances, but Chucky manages to make it look creepy! As you draw his body, remember that Chucky is a doll, not a human.
We mention this because it affects the aspect ratio, and you may instinctively try to give it a more realistic aspect ratio.
As you will see in the images below, its head should be disproportionately more significant than its body.
Again, we recommend making a rough pencil sketch of her body attached to her head so you can keep the proportions consistent. For now, let’s focus on his arms and chest.
First, draw a short neck with straight lines down from his head. Next, add a curved line at the base of the neck for the top of the suit.
So we use slightly curved lines for his arms, keeping in mind that they will be short.

Step 4
We are now ready to complete the pattern for Chucky to prepare you for some final details in the next step of the guide. This means that we will add his legs in this particular step.
As you can imagine, these continue straight from the chest area we drew in the previous step. We’re sure you’re used to it by now, but remember that the leg portion will be pretty small.
She’s a doll at heart, so her legs will be pretty short and stocky. They are not drawn with smooth lines but smaller curved lines connecting.
This will help give them the appearance of having dress pants over them. Finally, let’s draw the shoes he’s wearing.
As you will see in the reference image, the laces on these shoes are comically large and designed with subtle curved shapes. After drawing, let’s add the shoes themselves.
They are simple in design as they can be drawn using reasonably simple rounded lines. Each show has a separate flat base at the bottom to complete it.
That means you’re ready for the finishing touches! Before proceeding, make sure everything is the way you want it.
You can also erase any pencil lines you used to plan your drawing at this stage, as they are no longer needed.
So it’s time to have some fun with the finishing touches, ideas, and details we’ll add in the next step.
Step 5
This drawing of Chucky already looks pretty recognizable, and you can tell who it is! It’s not quite finished yet, as Chucky still needs more subtle touches to complete his look.
First, we will make her hair a little textured and realistic. This can be accomplished by adding a series of small, slightly curved lines within the outline of the hair.
You don’t need to match them to our example; you can place these details anywhere. We already mentioned that his striped shirt is an iconic part of his design.
That’s why it’s best to add stripes, which you can do with simple horizontal lines.
These are attached to each arm of his shirt and the visible collar and chest underneath the suit.
Speaking of the suit, we’re also going to draw some simple details throughout the suit to add some folds and texture to the garment. With these details, you’re ready to color Chucky!
However, you don’t need to go further; you could add many exciting details. This is a great way to recreate your favorite scenes and looks from all the movies.
He looks scarred and battle-damaged in several appearances, so you should add some details. If you’re ambitious, you can even draw other movie characters!
Chucky is joined by his female counterpart Tiffany in a few films, which would be a great addition.
Adding background elements or props for Chucky to interact with would also be perfect for this design!
Step 6
Now you’re ready to bring this Chucky drawing to life with some paint. Chucky isn’t the cutest character, so we don’t mean that literally!
Let’s start with her signature red hair. Like in the movies, we used a very dark red for her hair, but you could make it lighter.
We then used darker shades of blue for his suits to recreate the film’s look. The shades are very dark in some areas to add some shading.
Then we dyed his striped shirt. Each stripe on his shirt is a different color, and here we have colors like red, blue, green, and pink.
Chucky’s “skin” is colored a darker flesh tone, and his eyes have a tinge of blue. Finally, you can dye her shoes with red and white paint to complete her look.
When coloring Chucky, we recommend using colored pencils, markers, or more vivid painting media to make the colors bright and eye-catching.
