Weight loss surgery helps you in loosing excess weight and also helps you in keeping far away from the diseases which are caused due to obesity. Overweight or weight gain is a matter to consider as this can lead to a big problem if continues for a long time. If you are over weighed, you need to think of ways to remove it and gain a normal weight. If you are still unable to lose weight it is good to opt for the weight-loss (bariatric) surgery. This can best help an individual to lower the risk of medical problems that are associated with obesity and lose weight.
Weight Loss Surgery in India Contributes in Two Ways:
Malabsorption
This surgery is used to shorten or bypass part of small intestine. This reduces nutrients and amount of calories the body absorbs.
Restriction
This surgery is used to physically limit the amount of food that stomach can hold. Thus reduces the overall calories an individual can eat.

Here is a detail of Common Weight Loss Surgeries:
Sleeve Gastrectomy
In this bariatric surgery, part of the stomach is removed from the body. The left part of the stomach is formed into a tube-like structure. The concept is that a smaller stomach cannot hold much food that directly produces less of the appetite. It helps to regulate hormones ghrelin that reduces the desire to eat. This surgery does not affect the absorption of calories and nutrients from the diet.
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
In Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, the surgeon creates a small pouch at the top of the stomach. This is the only part of the stomach that receives food. Thus, it directly limits the amount of food and drinks that a patient can intake at a time. In this surgery, the small intestine is cut to shorten below the main stomach. With this, food flows directly from the pouch to the part of the intestine. This continues to make digestive juices. In this surgery, the portion of the intestine is still attached to the main stomach and is reattached farther down. In this, digestive juices flow down to the small intestine. As food now bypass a portion of the small intestine, fewer calories and nutrients are absorbed.
Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding
In this Weight Loss Surgery, a band containing an inflatable balloon is fixed and put around the upper portion of the stomach. This helps to create a small pouch over the band with a narrow opening to the rest of the stomach. Further, a port is placed under the skin of the abdomen. In this, the band gets connected with a tube through the port. When fluid gets injected or removed, the band adjusts the size thus it restricts the food amount into the stomach. This provides a feeling of the full stomach but does not reduce calories or nutrients from the diet.
Duodenal Switch with Biliopancreatic Diversion
This is almost similar to the Sleeve gastrectomy surgery that removes the large part of the stomach. In this surgery, the first part of the small intestine is left along with the valve that releases food to the intestine. In this, the surgeon also closes the middle section of the intestine and attaches the last part directly to the duodenum.
